Shuffletime: The Blog

Everything you ever wanted to know about Shuffletime. Really.

Discontinued Products

clock December 27, 2009 11:56 by author Nik T.

It seems that some of our raffles are extremely unpopular. In particular, a few products have only ever had two people bidding on them. It's obviously not much of a raffle if there are only two people are bidding, so those products have now been discontinued.

If you purchased one of these products recently, you’ll see that your coins have been refunded.

If you’re curious what the three most popular raffles are (excluding iPods obviously), here they are:

  1. V-Cube 7 Superbube
  2. Perpetual Spinning Top
  3. Pet Tornado

If you have other suggestions for prizes, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Gone beta!

clock October 29, 2009 12:11 by author Nik T.

You may have noticed a little change in our logo today…

alpha-to-beta

That’s right, we’re now officially in beta, baby.

Things that have changed:

  • The logo
  • The footer
  • I now get an email every single time there is an error

After a couple months of testing, the expectation is now that all of the pages on Shuffletime will work. If you see anything that’s not working, or you encounter an error page, please let me know.

Also, I wanted to remind everyone all of the ways that you have to interact with the Shuffletime team (me, Alix, and the guides):

  1. Send an email to support@shuffletime.com.
  2. Add comment or suggestion to our UserVoice Feedback Page.
  3. Leave a comment on this blog.

We really want to hear from all of you.

Recruits!

clock October 1, 2009 13:12 by author Nik T.

Do you fancy yourself a Patton, Rommel, or Yamamoto?  Want to command armies of elite Shuffletime players?

Well, you can’t.

But, you can recruit your friends to join Shuffletime, and earn bonus coins. You’ll get 5% of all the coins your recruits earn.

So, let’s say you recruit:

  • Your mother, who earns 20 coins and then bails.
  • Your officemate at work, who promptly earns 1,000 coins.
  • Your little brother, who earns 20,000 coins.

You’ll earn a total of 1051 coins from those three recruits.

To get started, click on the “Recruits” tab in your account:

Here’s a screenshot of how it looks. And no, I did not actually recruit those players… but imagine if I did!

September Updates

clock September 28, 2009 12:52 by author Nik T.

Hey, it’s Nik with the first in a series of posts. I’m the lead programmer for Shuffletime, and every month I’ll write about all of the new features on the site. This is my first time blogging, so go easy on me.

shuffle-by-typeShuffle by the type of card (i.e. Video)

First up is a commonly-requested UserVoice suggestion: the ability to see only one type of card, or to exclude a type of card. This could also be called “work mode” for those of you who play at work and want to avoid Games/Videos because they make too much noise.

Basically, you can select any of the types. You can also combine them with the guides, so for example select “Gordon” with “no games” to see all of Gordon’s cards that are not games. (Warning: he doesn’t have very many.)

Windowshade

This was a great suggestion from UserVoice. Sometimes, the top bar can get in the way, especially after you’ve finished playing a card. There is now a double-arrow that you can click. This will “roll-up” the bar so it takes up only a tiny amount of room. Click anywhere on the rolled-up bar to roll it back down.

You can click on this little icon to roll-up the top bar.

More lenient answers

This was by far the most requested item on UserVoice. (See here and here.)  It’s frustrating if you type in “three” and then are told you are wrong because you should have typed in “3”. This is now fixed.

If you encounter an answer that you think should be listed as an alternate, just report the card and the guide will credit your points and add that as an alternative answer.

leaderboardsSuper-duper leaderboards

You can now see the top 100 leaders, and you can sort by the following categories:

  • Coins
  • Cards
  • Batting Average
  • Playtime
  • Joined

Which reminds me… kudos to apple for a redonkulous batting average: 0.973 at the time this post was written!

Other little things

In no particular order, here are some other features that were recently completed:

  • New login system. We originally used a third-party service called RPX that many of you had problems with. Now, if you signup or login with Google, Yahoo, OpenID, or Facebook, it’s using our own code that works 100% of the time.
  • Update your email. You can add additional email address on the preferences tab.
  • Add an OpenID. Okay, this is a little geeky, but if you signed up with a username or password, you can now add your OpenID so that you don’t need to signin with a password anymore. It’s all on the preferences tab.
  • Short delay. You’ll notice that when you start a card, the timer now blinks for five seconds while the page is loading.
  • Off the wall. Really doesn’t need much of an explanation. Checkout the last row of the prizes page.
  • Customize your profile. You can add your real name, a short bio, a larger picture, and your favorite guides. More coming soon.

Suggestions?

So, this was my first “updates” post. Is this interesting and/or helpful? What else would you like to see in these posts? Let me know in the comments. And, as always, if you have any suggestions for the site, use the Feedback Tab.
